About two-third of the world’s poor people live in rural areas, and most of them depend on agriculture for their livelihoods . Livestock, Goat Farming sub-sector is an important avenue in fostering agricultural growth, improve food security and employs over million of people, making it the second largest source of rural livelihood. Goat farming in India has achieved a position in the world economy in commercial goat farming, and has already an established and profitable business model. Black Bengal Goat farming is an important element on rural life in West Bengal & North East Regions .
About Program : Black Bengal Goat Cluster
Under our self funding , We have establish North East first “Black Bengal Goat Cluster” . Under this cluster 250+ Families rearing Black Bengal Goat at Indo-Bangladesh Border side Block of North 24 Pgs District under the State of West Bengal. The maximum Nos. of Families are ultra poor category & belongs in SC , ST Communities. 70% housewives are engaged in this cluster.
Program Objectives :
• To create sustainable Goat based livelihood for ultra poor section to elevate poverty .
• To increase income generation through scientific goat farming in traditional approaches.
• To create opportunity of self-employment for rural youths .
• To Provide self sustainability to goat rearer through goat husbandry.
• To Promote scientific goat rearing among the farmers especially marginal, small and landless farmers.
• To empower Women through goat husbandry and To improve status and their families and ensure their food security.
• To promote & demonstrate Green Fodder.
• To improve & conserve Black Bengal Goat Breed.
• To Provide quality germplasm to the farmers/ entrepreneurs
• To Promote artificial insemination in Black Bengal goats.
