Environmental Conservation
- Project Status: Ongoing
Why Environment ?
Environmental conservation is critical for India’s sustainability. The country loses around 5.3% of its GDP annually due to environmental degradation. India ranks third globally in carbon emissions, contributing around 7% of the world’s total. Climate change impacts are severe, with increasing heatwaves affecting over 23 million people and causing annual economic losses of approximately $37 billion.
Deforestation has led to the loss of 1.6 million hectares of forest between 2001 and 2020, impacting biodiversity. Soil erosion affects 30% of agricultural land, threatening food security. Protecting the environment ensures health, economic stability, and a sustainable future for all Indians.
Bharatiya Jana Seva Mission, a renowned Indian environmental conservation NGO based in West Bengal, leads climate change action with expertise in agroforestry, water body conservation, watershed development, and soil conservation. Our mission is to mitigate environmental degradation and promote sustainable practices for a healthier planet.
