Protecting Agricultural Canals Through Mango Tree Plantation
Bharatiya Jana Seva Mission is continuing its tree plantation and environmental initiative along agricultural canals in West Bengal, with a special focus on protecting water resources for agriculture.
As part of this ongoing programme, another plantation activity was organised on 28 September 2026, with mango saplings planted along the sides of agricultural canals.
Agriculture depends heavily on the availability of water. Protecting and maintaining agricultural canals is therefore essential for preserving water flow, supporting irrigation, and safeguarding the interests of farming communities. Alongside canal conservation, planting trees along canal banks can help protect the soil, strengthen the surrounding landscape, and increase greenery in agricultural areas.
Through this initiative, the Mission aims to:
- Support the conservation of agricultural canals and water resources.
- Help maintain water availability for farming and irrigation.
- Reduce soil erosion along canal banks.
- Increase greenery around agricultural land.
- Promote the planting of fruit-bearing mango trees for long-term community benefit.
This is an ongoing programme, not a one-day activity. The Mission will continue working towards protecting agricultural water sources, increasing plantation, and creating healthier and more sustainable surroundings for farming communities.
