Tree Plantation Drive to Save Wetlands & Uplift Communities

Event Title: Ongoing Tree Plantation Drive to Save Wetlands & Uplift Communities
Date: 26th April 2025
Location: North 24 Parganas, West Bengal

Event Summary:
Bharatiya Jana Seva Mission continues its year-long commitment to environmental sustainability through regular tree plantation drives across vulnerable and ecologically sensitive regions of West Bengal. On 26th April 2025, we carried out a significant plantation program in the wetland areas of North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India focusing on both ecological conservation and community well-being.

The wetlands of North 24 Parganas play a crucial role in preserving biodiversity and protecting the surrounding villages from natural calamities like floods and cyclones. However, due to rapid urbanization, soil erosion, and climate change, many of these embankments are under threat. In response to this critical issue, our team initiated a plantation drive along the embankment zones, where we planted hundreds of high-quality mango saplings.

The initiative is designed not only to stabilize the wetland borders through afforestation but also to create long-term livelihood opportunities for local, marginalized families. Once matured, these fruit-bearing trees will contribute to the local economy by offering sustainable income sources to the community, especially women and small farmers.

With active participation from local residents, volunteers, and field workers, the event saw strong community engagement and awareness-building sessions about the importance of plantation and wetland preservation.

This tree plantation drive is a part of our broader mission to plant over 1 lakh trees in 2025, ensuring climate action, biodiversity protection, and sustainable rural development.

Impact at a Glance:

  • Protection of wetland ecosystems
  • Empowerment of local communities through agro-forestry-based livelihood
  • Promotion of indigenous and fruit-bearing species
  • Strengthening climate resilience in flood-prone zones

Bharatiya Jana Seva Mission remains committed to restoring nature while building a greener and more inclusive future for all.
