Tree Plantation Drive to Protect Lives & Livelihoods

On 11th May 2025, Bharatiya Jana Seva Mission , tree planting ngo organized a Tree Plantation Program as part of our ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and community welfare. The drive took place along the riverbank areas of North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India , a region highly vulnerable to climate change and home to numerous underprivileged families.
The initiative focused primarily on planting mango saplings, which serve a dual purpose: contributing to environmental restoration and creating long-term livelihood opportunities. Fruit-bearing trees like mango not only help restore the natural ecosystem but also promise a source of future income for the local residents.
This plantation effort is part of a larger climate action strategy aimed at protecting fragile riverbank habitats, reducing the risk of climate-induced displacement, and preventing the emergence of climate refugees. With increasing river erosion and unpredictable weather patterns, these communities face severe environmental and economic vulnerabilities.
By choosing native and economically beneficial tree species, we are working toward a sustainable and inclusive development model that addresses both ecological concerns and socio-economic upliftment. The plantation drive also aimed to create awareness among local villagers, especially youth and women, about the importance of environmental stewardship and natural resource preservation.
We believe that planting a tree today is an investment in a resilient tomorrow. This initiative is a step forward in building climate-resilient communities through grassroots-level interventions.
Bharatiya Jana Seva Mission remains committed to continuing such efforts throughout the year as part of our broader environmental action plan, with a special focus on riverbank greening, climate adaptation, and community-led sustainability.
