Rama Adhikary’s Path to Independence
Rama Adhikary, a widow from a small town in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, faced overwhelming challenges in providing for her young daughter. As the sole breadwinner in a marginalized family, Rama’s options were limited, and her future seemed uncertain. But her determination to create a better life for her child led her to Bharatiya Jana Seva Mission.
Recognizing her potential, the Mission offered Rama skill training in jewelry box making, along with essential raw materials to get started. With their support, she honed her craft and began creating beautiful, handcrafted jewelry boxes. The Mission also helped Rama establish connections with local jewelry markets, providing her with the platform she needed to sell her products.
Slowly but surely, Rama’s efforts began to pay off. As her income grew, so did her confidence. Today, she is not only able to provide for her daughter but is also building a sustainable livelihood for herself. Rama Adhikary’s story is a powerful example of how skill development and community support can transform lives, turning hardship into hope and empowering women to forge their own paths.
