Women-Led Tree Plantation Drive in India
Women-Led Tree Plantation Drive for Environmental Conservation and Livelihoods in West Bengal , India
On 2nd January 2025, Bharatiya Jana Seva Mission successfully organized a Women-Led Tree Plantation Drive as part of its special initiative under the ongoing plantation program. This impactful event took place along the canal-side area of the Ichamati River in North 24 Parganas District, a region connected to the Sundarbans, the world-renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The program saw enthusiastic participation from women belonging to economically underprivileged communities. They actively contributed to planting primarily fruit-bearing trees, ensuring dual benefits of environmental conservation and livelihood enhancement. The initiative aims to restore the ecological balance in the Sundarbans-adjacent areas while offering sustainable income opportunities through future harvests.
By empowering women as the primary drivers of this plantation effort, Bharatiya Jana Seva Mission underscores its commitment to promoting community-driven environmental stewardship and fostering economic resilience.
This endeavor not only addresses climate change adaptation but also strengthens the connection between people and nature, paving the way for a greener and more sustainable future.
